Welcome to Ptarmigan Lake Lodge
The best place for Alaska wilderness hiking!
Ptarmigan Lake Lodge is nestled deep in the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve, the largest national park in the country. The original hunting lodge was built in 1959, and is now the caretaker’s cabin. The main lodge was built in 1980, and serves hunters, hikers, and adventurists of all types throughout the year.
Summer and Hunting season features indoor plumbing and hot showers. During the other nine months of winter, the lake is frozen and facilities are a bit more primitive: water jugs, outhouse and sauna. We have electricity year round, which is about 90% solar with a backup diesel generator for heavy use or short winter days. Limited internet access is available year round for those who just can’t live without email and facebook.
